The Examiner Advantage

Why does it matter that I'm an examiner?

Most tutors teach from a textbook. I mark the real papers β€” and I've spent over 18 years in the classroom, with nearly 15 years leading departments and teams in secondary and further education. Every session combines examiner precision with the teaching craft that only comes from genuine experience.

I know the mark scheme inside out

I don't speculate about what earns marks β€” I know. Students are taught to write the way examiners reward, not the way most textbooks describe.

For StudentsπŸ”

Real marking, not guesswork

Written work is annotated the same way examiners mark actual scripts. You see exactly which lines earn marks and why β€” every single time.

For ParentsπŸ“Š

Honest grade assessments

A clear, accurate picture of your child's current grade and what it will take to reach the next boundary β€” no vague encouragement.

For StudentsπŸ’‘

Common mistakes β€” eliminated

After marking hundreds of scripts, I've seen the same errors cost students marks repeatedly. You'll learn to spot and avoid every one of them.

Parents & Students🎯

AQA & EDUQAS β€” both covered

I examine for both boards, so each session is tailored to your exact exam. Students from different schools can attend the same group.

Small group, big focus

A maximum of 8 students means every session has the energy of a group but the attention of something much closer to one-to-one.

My daughter went from a Grade 4 to a Grade 7. The examiner perspective was the key β€” she finally understood what was actually expected, not just what the textbook said.

Questions Answered

Frequently asked questions

Honest answers for parents and students β€” because clarity matters before you commit.

My child doesn't know which exam board they're on β€” is that a problem? Parent+
Not at all. I cover both AQA and EDUQAS, and students from both boards attend the same group. Just check with your child's school β€” it'll be on any letter or document mentioning exams. If you're still unsure, register for the free taster and we'll sort it out together.
What if my group has fewer than 8 students β€” will sessions still go ahead? Everyone+
Yes β€” sessions run regardless of group size. Eight is the maximum, not the minimum. A smaller group simply means more individual attention for each student. The content and quality of teaching is the same whatever the number.
Is Year 10 too early to start? Student+
Absolutely not β€” Year 10 is a great time to start. You have more time to build habits and embed techniques before the pressure of Year 11. Students who start early tend to go into their final year with real confidence rather than last-minute panic.
What technology does my child need for online sessions? Parent+
A laptop, tablet, or desktop with a reliable internet connection. A webcam and microphone are useful. The platform runs in a browser β€” nothing to download. Full joining instructions are sent before every session.
What happens between sessions β€” is there homework? Student+
Short written tasks are set after each session β€” around 20–30 minutes of practice. You submit them online and I mark them like a real exam script, returning detailed feedback before the next Saturday. It's this marked practice that drives the biggest improvements.
What if my child misses a session during the 6-week block? Parent+
Give 48 hours' notice where possible. Missed sessions cannot be refunded or carried over to the next block, but any resources from that session will be shared so your child doesn't fall behind. Blocks are non-refundable after the second session.
